“But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God.”Luke 5: 24-25
Hi everyone. I am missionary evangelist Rubens Cunha and this is part 7 of a 9-part weekly series on how to pray for healing and get results. Enjoy!
Principle #6: Pray with spiritual authority
It is amazing to notice that most healing miracles performed by Jesus and the apostles were not the result of a petition prayer but of a prayer of command spoken with spiritual authority, as in theme verse of our devotional today. The command prayer is by far the most used type of prayer to minister healing in the New Testament and unfortunately, the least used today. Here are several other examples:
• Jesus healed the man with the shriveled hand by commanding “stretch out your hand” (Matthew 12:13)
• Peter ministered healing to the paralytic man at the temple gate by saying “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” (Acts 3: 6-7)
• Peter ministered healing to Aeneas, the paralytic of Lydda saying, “Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat.” (Acts 9:34)
• Paul ministered healing to a man that was lame from birth by speaking: “Stand up on your feet!” (Acts 14:10)
In the name of Jesus, we were given authority to speak to circumstances and diseases and call miracles into existence!
Putting it into practice: Whenever you pray for healing, speak to the problem in faith and give a word of command just as Jesus and His disciples did. Speak to the body part that is sick and exercise authority in the name of Jesus, commanding that part be restored to perfect health. For example, you can say “Deaf ear, in the name of Jesus open and start hearing now.”
